A favorite tourist destination in the principality of Monaco, this city is known for its casinos and the world-renowned Circuit de Monaco Grand Prix annual event. It is also the playground of the rich and famous, so you can expect to come across the most sumptuous restaurants, upscale accommodations and liveliest nightlife you’ve ever experienced.

You will not find Monte Carlo wanting for things to do and sights to see. It has been the residence of the Grimaldi family for centuries and the palace saw an evolution of elegance and flair brought about by several Grimaldi generations throughout its history. The Throne Room and 14 other rooms of the palace are open to the public and definitely worth checking out.

Not to be missed is the Musée Océanographique or the Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium which dates back to 1910 commissioned by Prince Albert. It is perched precariously on the edge of the cliff and looks simply stunning. The museum displays the Prince’s collection of marine life and ship prototypes. Head down to the basement where the aquarium is located and be amazed with its 7.5 meter long coral reef showcasing colorful tropical fishes on one side and nightmarish sea predators on the other. There are ninety other tanks containing around 4,000 fish species and invertebrates.

Since Monte Carlo is the venue of the most glamorous car race in the world, it’s just apt to include a survey of classic cars in your itinerary. The place to go is the Collection de Voitures Anciennes which displays a total of 100 classics such as a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud and a 1929 Bugatti, the very first F1 Monaco Grand Prix racing car champion.

Other than the Grand Prix, the city is also a regular host to many sporting happenings such as boxing championships, Monte Carlo Rally and poker grand finals. These all-star affairs make checking out the city’s events calendar worth it.

For other entertainment options, first on the list is the Monte Carlo Casino. Even if you do not have intentions of sitting at a table, it is still worth stopping by to experience first hand the exciting atmosphere and the lavish display of wealth inside the casino’s gaming room. It is also home to Salle Garnier where many cultural events such as concerts, ballet recitals and opera performances take place. Its restaurants, cafes and clubs are also some of the best in the area.

New Zealand South Island

New Zealand’s spectacular South Island is one of the most beautiful locations in the world. Regardless of what you are interested in, whether idyllic beaches, enthralling wildlife sightings or spectacular hiking trails you will find something that will certainly have you falling in love with the island.

Marlborough province is one of the most popular destinations on the South Island. It features diverse landscapes and scenery that are all worth visiting. Marlborough Sounds is the adventurer’s destination of choice. It is a verdant region of secluded waterways that are ideal for a host of outdoor activities such as kayaking, boating and game fishing. The province is also home to several world-renowned wineries producing some of the best bottles of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Wine tasting is imperative for wine lovers visiting the area.

Marlborough also boasts of three UNESCO listed national parks that are all must-visit destinations when in the country. Abel Tasman is perfect for those who enjoy seascapes against rugged terrains and rocky coastlines. You can explore the area through the Abel Tasman trail which can be easily completed within a three day hike. En route, watch out for a colony of seals inhabiting the area. There is also Nelson Lakes National Park that is ideal for winter sports enthusiasts during that season. Come summer, the park becomes an angler’s haven. The third national park is known as Kahurangi which treats its visitors to incredible mountain and karst vistas.

The Kaikoura coast is another interesting attraction in the area. A marine life conservation, it treats visitors to close encounters with interesting sea creatures like the massive whales and the playful dolphins.

For interesting glacier watching or the more adventurous ice walks, you can head to Mt. Cook located at the southern part of the Alps where you can lay eyes on the magnificent Tasman Glacier - one of the longest in the world. It is also a favorite destination for skiing and snowboarding.

The west coast also offers plenty of opportunity to enjoy the country’s unique alpine landscape. If you are itching for a one of a kind adventure, join one of the guided ice walks and hike along glaciers as you meander through forests trails, picturesque river valleys and dramatic gorges until you reach the alpine foothills.

Another spectacular NZ attraction is the breathtaking landscape of Fiordland located southwest of the South Island. Recall what you saw in the “Lord of the Rings” blockbuster movie and you have a really good picture of what’s in store for you in the area. It is also home to a wide selection of picturesque trails that’ll take you past lakes, fjords and mountain passes. Interesting walking and hiking trails include the tracks of Greenstone, Te Anau, and Milford to name a few.  Be sure to bring your camera.

Queenstown is another must visit for adrenalin junkies. It offers a long line of thrilling activities such as paragliding, parachuting and bungee jumping. It also features the one of a kind speed boating adventure at the narrow gorges.

New Zealand North Island

New Zealand is a country of indubitable beauty. Its landscape is a rich mix of everything that travelers find most stunning and breathtaking. New Zealand has charming harbors and picturesque coastlines, prehistoric forests and alpine lakes, therapeutic hot springs and mud baths, and a thriving diverse wildlife as well.

More likely than not, you will be flying directly to Auckland. The city may not have the exotic terrain you visited New Zealand for, but it too, has plenty of exciting attractions and must visit destinations.

Auckland's harbor, in particular, is one of the best by international standards. In fact, it is hailed as the “City of Sails” because it features more boats per capita than anywhere in the world. A stunning panoramic view of the city and its surroundings can be had from the top of the circular glass viewing gallery of the Sky Tower.

If you are game for some exhilarating adventure, pass up on the elevator ride and go abseiling instead from the top of the tower right down to its base. If you still have time to spare, you can’t go wrong with a day trip to the nearby islands of the Hauraki Gulf. Just take the ferry from Waitamata harbor and you are on your way to an exciting beach getaway.

One additional delight is to explore Maori culture and heritage at the sun kissed territory of Northland. While in the area, enjoy the bounty of nature in the form of succulent tropical fruits and dazzling sandy beaches. Bay of Islands in the east coast is the place to go for some thrilling water fun adventures such as game fishing and sailing. Inland, you will find the Northland Forest Park that is just perfect for a lazy stroll. It features centuries old kauri trees that are quite a sight to see.

Driving trips are also ideal in the North Island of New Zealand. Take the Pacific Coast Highway and be treated to spectacular views of small inlets against the sparkling azure waters. You may want to stop by the popular resort destination of Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty. Its idyllic beaches are perfect for a wonderful day of relaxation that effectively rejuvenates the body and the spirit. You can also take a break at the inland orchards and enjoy the sweet tangy flavors of citrus and kiwi fruits. Wine lovers will be glad to know that the area boasts of an estimated 70 wineries with their doors open for exuberant wine tasting.

The central north island is a paradise for nature trippers and adventure seekers with its active geysers, live volcano, thrilling ski runs and towering mountain peaks. You also want to explore the western North Island for the enchanting limestone caves of Waitamo and the UNESCO Heritage Sites of Whanganui and Egmont National Parks, to name but a few.

Sights to See in Moscow

There is no better place of discovering the very heart of Russia than through its capital – Moscow. The city reflects beautifully the country’s colorful history and cultural legacy in its splendid architecture, impressive museums and inspiring cultural performances. Visitors will not be disappointed with what Moscow has to offer.

The perfect area to commence your survey of Moscow is at the oldest part of the city known as Kremlin. The old quarter dates back to the very beginning of the city’s existence around 1147.  The Kremlin is a magnificent fortress spanning 20 towers and housing various significant structures and buildings. There are palaces, churches, museums and impressive government buildings in the area.

The church of Annunciation Cathedral is exceptionally striking with its elaborate interior walls, icons and murals. It was exclusively reserved only for royalty in the past so there is no surprise with its plush ornamentation and extravagant architecture. If you are interested in historically relevant sites - checkout throne of Ivan the Terrible – seat of the coronation of tsars at the Assumption Cathedral. For a more elaborate display of glorious treasures, the museum of the Armoury Palace and its collection of valuable jewel-encrusted articles should not be missed.

At the center of the city is the famous cobbled stone Red Square where the remains of Lenin - in crystal casket - can still be viewed by the public. It is also where the Moscow’s most recognizable landmark, St. Basil’s Cathedral and its colorful domes, can be found. Another notable church in the city is the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the world’s biggest Orthodox church, that was built only at the turn of the century and features some of the best contemporary Russian artworks on display.

If you want to see more of remarkable pieces of Russian art, the best place to do it is at the famous Treyakov Gallery where a good number of icons dating from the 11th up to the 17th century are also on display together with traditional Russian masterpieces. It also features an outstanding exhibit of modern artworks of the 18th and 20th century.

Cultural performances are best witnessed at the long standing Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre that dates back to 1824. Russia’s ballet and opera companies need no elaborate introduction considering that they are not only considered world-renowned but also hailed as one of the best by international standards. Aside from stellar performances, the theatre itself is likewise a sight begging to be seen. Its sparkling five-tiered interior, fabulous hanging chandeliers and plush velvet furnishings complete the grand picture of the biggest theater in the world. 

Finally, the best place to tour around the city and move from one Moscow attraction to another is to go underground and hop on the city’s metro. You will be pleasantly surprised at how gorgeous the facility is. It is elaborately ornamented with marble floors, impressive pillars and beautiful artworks. It is one of the few underground rail systems in the world that are considered an attraction of their own.
